Of those mined diamonds that can be cut and polished, only 1 carat in 10,000 can be classified as fancy colored. Since colored diamonds are always a tiny percentage by-product of white diamond mining, the only way to increase the amount of fancy colored diamonds is to mine more diamonds. At the same time, education has made people more aware of the attractiveness of colored diamonds. Also the major dealers and auction houses of the world began publishing results of sales some 30 years ago, so now it is possible to use these results to gauge profitability of purchase. Since the physical supply is limited and more people realize the beauty, rarity and stable value of coloured diamonds, it is certain that demand will continue to grow over the next ten years.
